Fishing Report for July, August and September.
Fishing has been as good as it gets during this time of the year. With no Tropical storms this season so far and mild wind conditions we have had an absolute great summer. We have had better than average schools and very consistent catches mostly due to weather.
No matter who you are you can not beat Mother Nature. If the weather is crappy and unfishable it is just that Crappy and unfishable. The options: do not go out and do not go out. If I do not think I can catch a Redfish I certainly do not want to take you out and try. I am very honest about the fishing and I won't just take your money as some will. If the local fruit stand sells bad fruit customers quit coming even if you told them the fruit was bad. Same in Red fishing.
When you call me to ask about a potential trip and it is in the next week or so I can usually tell how we will do by the what has been happening and will discuss it with you honestly and fairly, good or bad.
The day of the trip barring extreme weather we will go out, but if there are any unexpected weather scenarios or NASA closures to Mosquito Lagoon etc., I will talk to you about them and we can decide what is best, rebook, make a good day by staying out longer no extra charge, refuel to go out some more etc.......Bottom line if we go, I fully expect to have a good day to a great day or we are not going.....
In all my 18 years in Mosquito Lagoon we have had days that it is definitely best to not go and even if the clients demand to go they will not be any happier when we do not catch a Redfish. So even though you might not be happy at the time you realize later that I made the right call and did not take your money for a boat ride as many do........It is about catching fish, not trying to catch a suntan while boat riding.
In general to finish this fishing report we are still getting the big, spawning 30# and up Reds on top water when the weather is reasonable and also still seeing schools of slotfish in the flats. As I said this year has been great and we have had more double digit catches of Reds than any year I can remember in recent times. Redfish quantities are in great shape and we seem to see more and more over the last few years.
With no tropical systems this year we have not gotten dirty, ocean water rushing in the lagoon along with high water conditions for long periods of time which both limit our catches over time.
As we head into the cooler months Redfish will get into their tailing, feeding in shallow water patterns even more and I always look forward to this scenario because of the visual side of seeing Redfish flagging and aggressively charging your bait...
Review and study your searches on the internet and find yourself one of the better guides out there. It will be worth it.......................................
