Well here is the latest fishing report from Mosquito Lagoon.

What better thing to do on a fine Florida day than go fishing in Mosquito Lagoon on a perfect calm morning. I was with one of my long time clients Mike Long of CSI signs in Titusville and his friend Bryan from California. We had tried to go a week or so earlier but the weather deteriorated fast that day and I called the trip off and we went to breakfast and I told Mike as I do all my clients to call me again and reschedule and there was no charge for that 2 hour boat ride. Well this was Mike's make up day and what a great morning. Perfect glass.

We went right to a school of 200 or so black drum I was aware of and began to hook up right away. They all were between 8 and 12 pounds. Although they don't quite fight as good as their cousins, the redfish, they are fun on light 8lb. test tackle. We caught 15 or so and decided to go look for other possibilities as the weather was holding. Perfect glass still.

Pinch me! I thought "what great conditions". As I moved along a flat not far away from these Black Drum I noticed heavy movement up ahead 200 yards. It might be some big redfish or Black Drum I mentioned to Mike as I shut down the Yamaha and got on the trolling motor to ease over that way to relocate these fish. It was dead slick and no other boats moving around to make ripples I knew I should be able to find these fish here somewhere. All of the sudden 20 giant redfish tails popped up 50 yards to our right. Then 50 more popped up. It was a school of 100 or so giant 20 plus pound redfish beginning to fin just out of casting range. I eased up very carefully with the trolling motor on as slow as it would go and finally shut it off and let us drift towards the school. They seemed to go down and maybe they heard us and were slowly moving away. A few seconds later they again popped right up 25 feet beside us and began to fin.

What a sight to see a large school of 25 pound redfish finning in 4 feet of gin clear water just happy to be there looking for food. Mike quickly casted and Bryan followed seconds behind Mike BOOM! BOOM! Double hook up on 8# test. I usually like to bring a little heavier tackle to fight these brutes with, but I felt it was risky to take the time to change tackle and not find them. Good choice. Mike and Bryan fought these two big reds for 30 minutes or so and we got a nice double picture of the pair. We finished off the morning with 8 more slot reds and were at the dock at 11:30 am headed to lunch with great digital pictures and Mosquito Lagoon fish stories.

This is why as a guide I have been around so long because my priority is you, the client and catching as many redfish as possible on our trip. Sometimes the weather goes downhill fast and I stand behind my business and guarantee and have you come back and redo, finish up or complete a flawed trip with no added charge. Its just good business that happens to be fishing............ Capt. Larry L. Fowler
